Repair Corrupt QuickBooks File using Stellar Repair for QuickBooks Software

I have been using the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise for a while now and never had any issues until recently. I use QBDT Enterprise for combining reports for multiple company files. All the company files are opening except for one – which disappeared after an update, and I could not restore the QuickBooks backup file (QBB).

I tried restoring the QBB file to a new location, but it won’t load. It seems the QBB file has turned corrupt. The QuickBooks Tool Hub provides options to repair a company file (QBW), but I can’t find any option to repair the QBB file. While searching for a solution to recover data from the QBB file, I came across Stellar Repair for QuickBooks® software. The software claims to perform QuickBooks company file recovery from the backup file (QBB).

Here, I will be sharing the software steps that I performed to repair the corrupt QBB file and my thoughts on what’s best and missing in the software.

After downloading and installing the QuickBooks repair tool, when I launched it, I was presented with the main interface screen. The main interface had options to Browse or Find the corrupt QuickBooks file (QBW or QBB). I clicked on the Browse option to select my corrupt QBB file.

Note: The ‘Find’ option is for users who are unaware of the location of their QuickBooks® file. This option helps search for the file on the computer’s local drive.

Clicking Next displayed a screen with option to select a working backup file (QBB) for better repair results. Since I had already selected the backup file, I skipped to the next step

The Skip button opened a ‘Review and Scan’ screen with the selected QBB file. After verifying the file selection, I clicked the Scan button to begin scanning the file for corruption errors and repairing it.

The software initiated scanning the QB files. 

I liked that the scan process took only a few minutes to complete. However, I came across a little snag. There’s a little correction needed in the UI. The software prompted me to review and scan a QBW file even though I have selected to repair a QBB file. But what’s important is that the software worked. It scanned and repaired the selected QBB file.

The software displayed a summary of the scanned QBB file, including the scan process’ starting time and end time and number of records present and deleted in the file.

Clicking OK in the ‘Scan Summary’ dialog box displayed a preview of the repaired Company’s data in the backup file.

The software also supported preview of ‘Charts of Accounts’ and ‘Items & Services’ of the Company. It also presented the repaired data of the Customers, Vendors, and Employees by clicking on the respective tab. 

For instance, clicking on the Customers tab opened up the following screen:

Clicking Save opened a ‘Save File’ dialog box with an option to browse a new QBW file or current QBB file for saving the repaired data. I selected my existing QBB file to save the repaired data.

Clicking Save started the file saving process. On completion of the saving process, the software displayed a ‘Repair Process Complete’ message box.
